Is “critical race theory” a way of understanding how American racism has shaped public policy, or a divisive discourse that pits people of color against white people? Liberals and conservatives are in sharp disagreement. In fact, there is currently proposed legislation in 28 states, including Missouri, to prohibit the teaching of what is being termed as “critical race theory” along with any other curriculum that addresses systemic racism, sexism, or the oppression of any historically disenfranchised group of people.
Albert Lowe, MCC Professor of African American History, and Cornell Ellis, Co-Founder/Executive Director of The BLOC (Brothers Liberating Our Communities), will facilitate a community-based conversation to demystify critical race theory and discuss strategies to ensure our students are learning the truth and understand our collective history from multiple perspectives.
Please check in at the admissions desk in the R.A. Long Foundation Grand Hall at 5:45 p.m.
